Today is Labor Day in the United States.
The holiday celebrates the contributions of workers and was organized by labor unions in the late 19th century.
God also celebrates work but he doesn’t do it once a year at the beginning of September. God celebrates work once a week on the Sabbath.
The fourth commandment tells us that we need to take a day of rest. We’re to accomplish all of our work in six days and then take a day of rest. Before saying anything about honoring our parents, lying, or adultery, God tells us to take a day off.
We know that there are Ten Commandments but sometimes we live like there are only nine.
It’s easy to lose sight of the Sabbath because we get caught up in the busyness of our lives and move on from one thing to the next. If we want to be obedient, though, then we’ll join God in his celebration of work and take a day off.
What helps you obey God’s command to rest?
