Not many people like change. This reality is never clearer than when Facebook decides to change its layout.
On Tuesday night I got home from youth group and spent some time on Facebook, to tell some students it was nice seeing them and to tell others that I missed seeing them. While traversing Zuckerberg’s social network, I noticed some changes had been made. Even if I hadn’t noticed the changes, I would have known something was up from all of the angry status updates or stories on the local news.
Change can be a scary thing, whether that’s with Facebook, careers or relationships. Change adds an unknown element to our lives and reminds us that we ultimately are not in control. Thankfully, though, the one who is in control loves us and he will never change.
Hebrews 13:8 says:
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Jesus Christ, through whom the universe was created and is held together, is the same yesterday, today and forever.
He was the same on Tuesday afternoon before Facebook changed.
He is the same today when we heard a friend was diagnosed with cancer.
He will be the same tomorrow when graduation day or a different job offer comes.
The saying that “the only thing constant in life is change” couldn’t be any more wrong. Change may be constant but it is like shifting sand compared to the faithfulness of Jesus Christ. And understanding the constant faithfulness of Jesus Christ should give us a greater sense of peace when facing constant change.
Even all of those horrible, nasty changes to Facebook.
How do you deal with change?
