The Iron Man 3 trailer came out yesterday. In case you missed it, you can watch it below.

I literally have May 3 marked down in my calendar for Iron Man 3. Needless to say I was excited for this movie but the trailer has pushed my excitement level to new heights. Here are some thoughts I had while watching the trailer. Hopefully they can help tide you over for the next six months.
Rebuilding
My favorite movie site, JoBlo.com, said that one of the best aspects to Tony Stark’s character is his constant need to reinvent himself. I couldn’t agree more. The movie version of Tony Stark worked his way up to the Mark VII armor in The Avengers and, as seen in the trailer, is going to have a few more versions. Stark is always working to improve and rebuild himself. While following Christ isn’t nearly as exciting as fighting off an alien invasion, our lives still need be improved and rebuilt. Thankfully for us we aren’t the ones improving or rebuilding. Stark has to build all his armor by himself but Jesus is the one who builds and rebuilds us.
“Heroes, there is no such thing.”
I’m excited that Mandarin is the villain in Iron Man 3; he was even referenced in the first movie. It’ll be interesting to see how Mandarin’s powers work and whether or not his rings are magical. I want to know how his line, “Heroes, there is no such thing” fits within the context of the movie. Regardless of its context, I don’t agree with Mandarin’s statement. There might not be super heroes but there are definitely people who make a difference in our lives. I’ve got plenty of heroes but none of them wear capes or suits of armor. My heroes are the people who have invested in my life because they believed I could be something more even I when I couldn’t. We should find our heroes and thank them even if they’re not billionaire, playboy geniuses.
Freaking Awesome
I love watching movies to see how they connect with my faith. God speaks to us all the time and often does so through current cultural artifacts. I also love watching movies for sheer entertainment. And as far as entertainment goes, Iron Man 3 looks freaking awesome. The fanboy in me can’t wait to see Iron Man go toe-to-toe with Mandarin and the freshman boy in me can’t wait to see a bunch of explosions. May 3 cannot come soon enough.
While most people didn’t, I actually liked Iron Man 2. From the trailer, it looks like Iron Man 3 is heading in a more serious direction, which I am excited about. I’m sure I’ll post again about Iron Man 3 before its release date but, until then, take another two minutes and watch the trailer again; your day will be better for it.
What are your thoughts about the new Iron Man 3 trailer?
Just saw the trailer yesterday for Iron Man 3. It also looks darker too. The only problem I have is why is there a giant stuffed bunny in Tony Stark’s home when the Mandarian attacks. It’s at 1:13.
I think you’re right in that we need to constantly continue to rebuild ourselves by the power of the Holy Spirit. Sanctification only comes by the work of Christ in our lives–constantly rebuilding and retooling us until we reach perfection.
Good post. Thank you.
