#469 – Nerdy Fall Movie Preview: Part 2

    By scotthiga | Uncategorized | 0 comment | 1 November, 2012 | 0

I can’t believe there are only two months left in 2012. It’s been a great year for nerdy movies, highlighted by The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. The past few months weren’t great for nerdy movies and the rest of the year isn’t looking much better, with the exception of our return to Middle-Earth. Here are previews of some nerdy movies coming out in November and December.

    Wreck-It Ralph – November 12, 2012

I’ve wanted to see Wreck-it Ralph since I saw the first preview. The scene of Ralph in the villain support group with Zangief, the Pac-Man ghosts and other video game villains blew my mind. I’m totally planning on seeing Wreck-It Ralph, hopefully this weekend. The thought of a video game villain trying to reform his ways and start a new life is genius. I can’t wait to see if Ralph turns over a new leaf and what other video game characters make a cameo.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (Part 2) – November 16, 2012

I will not see this movie.

Rise of the Guardians – November 21, 2012

I just watched the trailer for this movie and was really disappointed. I had hoped that it was a sequel to Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole but it’s a digitally animated movie about Jack Frost, Santa Claus, the Sandman, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy saving the children of the world. The movie doesn’t look terrible but the premise seems a little silly. I’m all for legendary owls fighting off evil birds but holiday mascots saving children seems a little far-fetched.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – December 14, 2012

Can this movie come out today? I am so excited for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey; I keep watching the trailer over and over again. My excitement lessened a little when I found out that Peter Jackson was stretching the planned two movies into three. However, from everything I’ve seen, The Hobbit series looks like it’s going to get off to a good start this December. The Lord of the Rings series is one of my all-time favorites and I can’t wait to see Peter Jackson take his talent and passion back to Middle-Earth. I’m also looking forward to The Hobbit because Alycia might actually be more excited for it than I am, which will help make up for my insanity over The Avengers.

The fall is normally devoted to Oscar contenders instead of nerdy movies. I may pass on a few of these movies to catch some Best Picture hopefuls. Depending on how successful Peter Jackson is, The Hobbit may end up as a nerdy Best Picture nominee.

What nerdy movies are you looking forward to over the next two months?

    Movies, The Hobbit

I want to see the hobbit of course. But I also want to see Flight, I know it may not be nerdy but I love almost any Danzel Washington is in.

Flight does look good. There are way more non-nerdy movies that I want to see this fall.

Strangely enough….I find myself fascinated by movies like Chris Nolan’s Batman series and the Riddick movies (which should have a new one out in 2013!). I think it has something to do with the protaganist being a person using the same methods as “evil”, but fighting for the good guys (although even that is dicey with Riddick),…maybe sort of a prodigal son (sort of) story.
