This year I finally got around to reading the Harry Potter series. I’ve never had anything against Harry Potter but understand that some people do. I really just wanted to read the books and see what connections there are to the Christian faith. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets isn’t my favorite book in the series but it introduces a number of important characters including Tom Riddle and Ginny Weasley. This post kicked off my second foray into J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world and was the fifth most popular of the year on TheChristianNerd.
A few months ago I began my first foray into the world of Harry Potter. Until this past January, I had never read any of the books or seen any of the movies. In order to get rid of that glaring blind spot in my nerdiness, I decided to read and blog through Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I finished the book and the blog posts a month ago and have decided it’s time to move on to book two: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
In the past month I’ve read a few books about the church and spiritual formation as well as some Star Wars novels. Also, as I mentioned yesterday, I’m reading The Hunger Games in order to know what all of the students in our youth group are talking about. Since Alycia and I will be spending the next few days on vacation, I think I’ll have more than enough time to finish up with Katniss and resume Mr. Potter’s adventures.
I would love for you to join me as I go through The Chamber of Secrets. If you’ll be reading it for the fiftieth time or for the first time, I would love to hear your thoughts and reflections as we go through the book together.
I will post my thoughts over the next four weeks on Friday, except for Good Friday, I’ll post them earlier in the week. Below is the reading schedule I’ve laid out so we can read together.
March 23 – Chapters 1-5
March 30 – Chapters 6-9
April 4 – Chapters 10-13
April 13 – Chapters 14-18
Also, if you’re going to share your thoughts, please remember my simple rules of no spoilers and not getting too crazy if I don’t mention your favorite minor characters or plot points.
If you’ve read all of the Harry Potter books, where does The Chamber of Secrets rank?
I think you mean Tom Riddle. I don’t think there is a Jeremy Riddle in the series.
I’ve read all HP books and seen all movies and its my favourite series but Chamber of Secrets is ranked second to last in my own personal list, my least favourite being Half Blood Prince.
But it still is rather good and I think you’ll enjoy it.
Whoops. You’re right. Jeremy Riddle is a worship artist. Thanks.
