This isn’t a review of the movie Gravity. I haven’t seen it yet but I’m planning on seeing it soon.
Gravity is one of the most powerful forces in the universe. It keeps planets from crashing into each other and keeps us from flying off into space. We trust that gravity will keep our feet on the ground. If we didn’t we would have a hard time leaving our houses in the morning.
If we doubted gravity’s ability to keep us connected to earth then we wouldn’t ever want to go outside. We’d stare outside our windows wondering if today was the day that we were going to fall into space. We could throw a ball outside and see if it stayed on the ground. We could throw an unwanted pet outside to see if he or she would become a permanent resident of outer space. We don’t do that, though, because we believe in gravity and that belief impacts our actions.
Beliefs should impact our actions.
Deuteronomy 31:6 says:
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
As they were preparing to finally enter the Promised Land, Moses told the Israelites that they didn’t need to be afraid because God would never leave them nor forsake them. In spite of all their fears, the Israelites believed that promise and acted upon it. Unlike their fathers and mothers, they believed in God and put that belief into action.
When we look at that promise today, that God will never leave us nor forsake, it should impact our actions as well.
We should boldly step into a new ministry if God is calling us there.
We should unswervingly trust God even when facing a difficult situation.
We should continue pursuing God even when he feels distant.
If we believe God’s promise that he is never going to leave us nor forsake us then we need to put that belief into action. We need to be people of hope who declare God’s goodness even in the most trying times. We need to shine God’s light brightly even in the middle of the darkness. We need to share that promise with others who need to hear it.
We put our beliefs about many things into action every day. None of those beliefs can have as big of an impact, though, as living out the promise that God will never leave us nor forsake us.
Even if we fell off the face of the planet and ended up in space, God would still be there.
What helps you put your beliefs about God into action?
