Two weeks ago Edgar Wright tweeted the above picture. Wright is helming Marvel’s first Phase Three movie Ant-Man. The role of Hank Pym has yet to be cast but rumors suggest that Disney has narrowed its search to either Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Paul Rudd. I think either actor would make a good Hank Pym depending on the direction and tone of the movie.
Since we’ve been going through Financial Peace University I’m trying my best to be my own version of an ant-man.
Proverbs 6:6-8 says:
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.
It’s humbling to look at that verse and realize that a tiny insect with a tiny insect brain makes better decisions than I once did. Instead of storing and saving my provisions I spent them all on worthless junk.
I don’t have any significant savings but I do have a bunch of Blu-rays!
I don’t have any significant savings but I’ve eaten a lot of Chick-fil-A!
I don’t have any significant savings but I’ve got a lot of books I’ve never read and video games I’ve never played!
A lot of people don’t like it when the church talks about money but God has so much to say about it. God’s principles about saving and avoiding debt are transformative if applied to our lives. We should all strive to be ant-men or ant-women when it comes to our finances.
But it would also be cool to be the real Ant-Man. I’m sure if we invented Pym Particles we would have more than enough money to save and spend. Then we could make like Scrooge McDuck.
What helps you save like an ant?
Awesome post, Scott. I would never have thought to connect Ant-Man and that verse, although of course I’ve read it many times. Thanks for sharing this with us – words of wisdom, for sure.
Thanks, Mike! Have a great day!
I grew up during the great Depression (not just a “recession, so we quickly learned the value of work (one dollar a day) and to be “ant-wise.)
