As I wrote about yesterday, Call of Duty: Ghosts recently released. While our budget doesn’t leave much room for new video games, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to play it. I’m not that great at Call of Duty games or most first person shooters. In spite of my ineptitude, though, I really do enjoy them.
Perhaps I’d be better at one of these biblical first person shooters.
Ishmael
Ishmael was Abraham’s first son but not his heir. God had promised that Abraham and his wife Sarah would have a son. Instead of trusting in God, Sarah suggested that Abraham have a child with her servant, Hagar. I don’t know if Sarah really had to twist Abraham’s arm, but he eventually slept with Hagar and she got pregnant. Sarah grew jealous and eventually sent Hagar and Ishmael away. Genesis says that Ishmael lived in the desert and became an archer. I can imagine Ishmael’s game would be set in the desert, trying to survive and take vengeance on the father who disowned him. The final battle between Abraham and Ishmael would probably be a little anticlimactic, though, since Abraham was an old man. You don’t have to be Katniss to hit a 100-year-old dude.
Jael
Jael was the wife of Heber the Kenite. Her life didn’t seem that exciting. The only time we see her in the book of Judges she is just in her tent, tending to her duties. She probably lived a nomadic lifestyle, moving with her family and her herds. A first person game based on her life would probably be pretty domestic, like The Sims. The player could make Jael milk a cow, set up the tent and maybe do a little hunting. Jael’s life wasn’t just fulfilling her matriarchal duties, though. In the game the player would also get to drive a tent peg through the temple of Sisera, a Canaanite general. Jael could also get herself into Mortal Kombat. Her finishing move would be one of the bloodiest ever, with a tent peg and giant hammer exploding her opponents’ heads.
John
There are a lot of apocalyptic video games out there. The end of the world and demons and monsters trying to destroy the world are standard video game tropes. John experienced his own apocalyptic vision on the Isle of Patmos. The book of Revelation is filled with grotesque imagery that would make for a great video game. John could arm himself with a sword and a crossbow. John could take out dragons, fallen angels and all sorts of different monsters. John could save the world or at least fight alongside Jesus and his great white horse. EA turned Dante’s Inferno into a video game so I’m waiting on Activision to take some of that Call of Duty money and get Revelation: The Game into stores by next Christmas.
I don’t know if any of these games would be any good but I do know they’d be better than Left Behind: The Game.
What other Bible-based first person shooters would you like to play?
