So far this year I have been to four parties that had a Taco Man.
I don’t know if the Taco Man is only a southern California staple but, if he is, the rest of the world is missing out.
The Taco Man shows up for parties and cooks steak, chicken and carnitas; he then spoons those delicious meats into tortillas with beans and rice. I love the taco man, mostly because I love tacos. There is the fear, though, that the Taco Man will run out of tacos.
Whenever I’m at a party with the Taco Man, I always want to make sure that I’m one of the first in line. What if the party planners underestimated the number of people who would be at the party? I would hate to wait to go last only to find out that the Taco Man had ran out of tacos and turned into a mere Man.
We live with a scarcity mentality that there aren’t going to be enough tacos. But God wants to remind us that he is the ultimate Taco Man and that his is an economy of abundance.
This past weekend I preached about Yahweh-Yireh, the Lord who Provides. God is our great provider; everything we have ultimately comes from him. We are told countless times in the Bible that God is willing and capable of providing for our every need. He is so much our provider that it is literally in his name: Yahweh-Yireh.
Sometimes, though, we doubt that God has enough to really take care of us. We worry that there won’t be enough tacos to go around and we’ll be left wanting.
Or we wonder if God really has our best interests in mind. If God is giving to us out of his abundance then why don’t we have more? If God has the cattle on 1,000 hills and the tacos of 1,000 Taco Men, then why don’t we have more?
In both of those doubts, though, we really just need to rely on God’s goodness, we need to believe that he is Yahweh-Yireh. God has an abundance so he really can provide for all of our needs. And God is good, so he’s only going to give us what he thinks we need. We may want a million tacos, but God knows we don’t need that much. We need to trust that what God is giving us is what he wants us to have.
God is good and he is going to give us what he wants. We just need to get to a place of wanting what God wants for us.
What helps you want what God wants for you?
And just because.
