It’s time for my weekly Guardians of the Galaxy post.
Yesterday Marvel released a brand new international trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy, which you can see below.

I like that trailer a lot and not just because of the new footage. Compared to the two American trailers, the international trailer is a lot more epic. Instead of playing up the humor of the movies and characters, the international trailer focuses on more of the normal super hero movie tropes.
Super hero origin.
An unstoppable threat.
Moving speeches.
An epic soundtrack.
I enjoyed this trailer because it definitely paints Guardians of the Galaxy in a different light. This trailer makes Star-Lord’s exploits look far more serious and heroic. I miss Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling” but sometimes life calls for something more serious.
Ecclesiastes 3 says that there is a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.
There are different seasons in life and some will be more serious than others. We just need to figure out which season is which and act appropriately.
No one wants to take every situation too nonchalantly. We all know people who seem like they’ve never grown up and can’t take any situation seriously, even when the situation dictates it.
We also don’t want to be the person who takes everything too seriously. We all know people who want to inject gravity and weight into every situation, even the ones that are light and fun.
I’m definitely more the former than the latter. I don’t think anyone has ever accused me of taking anything too seriously. I’m more often accused of being flippant and glib. In fact I had a good friend tell me that I’m sometimes too flippant while preaching, glossing over an important point of God’s truth with a joke. I definitely want to take God’s truth seriously; it deserves an epic soundtrack as opposed to “Hooked on a Feeling.”
We need discernment and a little common sense to know when a situation calls for mourning or dancing, seriousness or laughing. A memorial service is a great time for mourning and a wedding is a great time for dancing – but not vice versa. Thankfully, whatever the season, we have a God who will celebrate with us in the joyful seasons and comfort us in the difficult ones.
Are you more like the American trailer or the international trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy?
