It’s one of my favorite times of the year: summer camp.
I’m back in San Diego for a great week of summer camp with our high school students. We’re at Hume San Diego and I’m looking forward to how God is going to work this week.
I’m more than looking forward to how God is going to work this week; I’m expecting God to work this week.
Our experience of God can be shaped by our expectations.
If we don’t expect God to show up, if we think we’re only going to experience the mundane, then that’s exactly what we’ll get. Limited expectations narrow our ability to see how God is working. Limited expectations give us tunnel vision and make it difficult to see outside of that tunnel.
If we can raise our expectations, though, and believe that we’ll see God work in unexpected ways then we will. If we expect God to work, if I expect God to work in the lives of our students this week, then I’ll be better able to see it. God is working all the time and raising our expectations opens us up to see that work.
I know God wants to do something amazing this week and I just hope that I’ll have the eyes to see it.
What helps you raise your expectations and see God working in your life?
