I recently shared about my love for television but my lack of time to watch television. My TV watching schedule cleared up last year as The Office and 30 Rock both signed off. However I added Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. There are a few nerdy shows making their debut this fall. I’m either going to have to sleep less or stop playing video games to find the time to watch them.
Here are some of the nerdy television shows debuting this fall.
Gotham – Premiers Monday, September 22
Of all the new nerdy shows debuting this fall I am most likely going to watch Gotham. Batman is the only DC hero I actually like and I’m interested to see Fox’s take on the Caped Crusader’s origins, especially since he won’t be making an appearance. Developing Batman’s Rogues Gallery independent of Batman seems like an interesting choice but, if executed well, could pay off. I’m most excited for Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock. Logue is a great actor and Bullock might by the most interesting character on Gotham, toeing the line between hero and villain.
The Flash – Premieres Tuesday, October 07
DC is really making a splash on television. DC has Arrow, Gotham, The Flash, Constantine and the just announced Supergirl. I haven’t watched Arrow, but a lot of people really like it. The Flash is a spin-off of Arrow, in the same little CW DC television universe. I’m probably not going to watch The Flash just like I haven’t watched Arrow. I know it’s not fair, but I can’t wash the stink of Smallville out of my mind. Smallville was so bad for so long that it has tarnished my view of any DC shows on the CW.
Constantine – Premieres Friday, October 24
I’ve never read the comic upon which Constantine is based. I did see Keanu Reeve’s version and actually enjoyed it. I don’t remember much except that John Constantine is a demon hunter and fairly apathetic. I don’t know how much faith NBC has in Constantine since it’s airing on Friday nights. Most television shows go to Friday night to die, which means Constantine already has one foot in the grave. For a show about demons and hell, though, that seems rather fitting.
I’ll probably get around to watching Gotham but that’s about it. I feel bad adding any new shows to the mix when I haven’t finished Breaking Bad and haven’t even started Fringe. Again, I hope there’s Netflix in heaven because that will give me plenty of time to watch TV.
What nerdy shows are you looking forward to this fall?
It's not nerdy per se, but "Selfie" stars Karen Gillan and John Cho, so I want to check that out. I will give "Gotham" and "The Flash" a try, but am likely not to go back to "Sleepy Hollow" - it just got way too silly way too fast, although I will miss the always excellent interplay of Ichabod and Abbie. Also looking forward to the return of S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Selfie" looks like something I would never watch but it stars Amy Pond so I'm compelled to watch it. I also read that it's an updated reeling of "Pygmalion" which also piqued my interest.
Yeah, if it did not have Karen Gillan I would have zero interest, but I think she is very smart and funny and I want her career to do well. I thought she was great as Nebula in GOTG. Also, I really like John Cho's Sulu, so I'll definitely be tuning in out of loyalty to their respective careers in sci-fi. That will only give them a pass for so long, though, if it doesn't turn out to be a good show (fortunately, though, the advance buzz is quite good - I know the premiere is already online legally at ABC's site, just haven't had the time to watch it).
I couldn't refrain from commenting. Very well written!
