    DuckTales_(Main_title)

If yesterday you heard a collective cheer from everyone between the ages of 28-34, it’s because Disney is bringing Ducktales back. Yesterday Disney announced that a new Ducktales series would premiere in 2017.

    Woo oo!!!

Some of my fondest childhood memories involve coming home after school every day and watching two and a half hours of cartoons. While other kids were outside playing, I was inside enjoying my adventures with Scrooge McDuck and Baloo.

My favorite lineup included Ducktales, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin and Darkwing Duck. I would watch all four of those shows on Channel 9 and then flip over to Channel 11 for Batman: The Animated Series.

I am fully onboard with a new Ducktales series. Here are some other old cartoons I wouldn’t mind getting a reboot.

    M.A.S.K.

    MASK

So many of my favorite childhood cartoons were simply 30-miute toy commercials; M.A.S.K. is a perfect example. I remember playing with the toys as much as I remember watching the show. In M.A.S.K. the heroes and villains all had special vehicles that could transform into different vehicle when they put on their special masks. Cars turned into jets and boats turned into helicopters. I remember waiting every episode to see the vehicles transform because it meant that things were about to get real.

    Silverhawks

Silverhawks was another show used to simply hock toys. I remember the toys because the action figures had wings beneath their arms, wings that they used to fly all over outer space and my living room. I especially remember Silverhawks for its amazing theme song and the team’s pilot, who for some reason was a cowboy who I had a laser guitar. It doesn’t make a lot of sense now but, when I was seven, I wanted to grow up to be a cowboy space pilot with a guitar that could blow stuff up when strummed.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

This is definitely the most popular intellectual property on this list. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe inspired spin-offs, countless toys and a ridiculous movie starring Dolph Lundgren. Apparently it also already inspired another reboot in 2002, which I obviously missed. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was great because of all the other memorable characters. He-Man was a serviceable hero but Man-E-Faces, Mekaneck, Mer-Man and Trap Jaw were so awesome. I know that there was a new movie in the works, but it’s caught in development hell. Hopefully it will get resurrected and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe can do battle with Skeletor once again.

Looking back, most of these shows were pretty terrible. They have a spot in my heart because of their sheer nostalgia value. Even if they all made it back to the TV like Ducktales, I doubt I’d have time to watch them. Though, with Parks and Rec wrapping up this week, I do have a little more space in my TV schedule. If I don’t find anything new to watch in the next two years, Ducktales and any other reboot from my childhood could earn a spot in the rotation.

What show from your childhood would you like to see rebooted?

Cartoons, Ducktales, He-Man, M.A.S.K., Nostalgia, Silverhawks, Television

In related resurrected cartoon news, "Inspector Gadget" is making a (Matthew Broderick-less) comeback to Netflix, apparently. Oh, one of these days I am going to have to give in and get a streaming plan to accompany my DVD membership. Filbbedy floo. 🙂

        Streaming is the business.

They'll have to drag me kicking and screaming. 😉
