Deadpool is finally getting his own movie. I still haven’t watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but I’m pretty sure it didn’t do the Merc with a Mouth justice. Deadpool really gained traction after some test footage found its way to the Internet. Now the movie will debut next February and the first trailer was released earlier this week. You can watch the trailer below.
I don’t know much about Deadpool, really only from his presence in X-Men and X-Force comic books. I know that he has a huge cult following, though, and the trailer definitely shows the humor and mayhem that have made Deadpool comics so successful. Below are some screen shots and thoughts from the trailer.
I linked to the green band trailer, but there was a more violent and NSFC red band trailer for Deadpool. Deadpool is going to be rated R and it’s going to earn that R rating. Disney and Marvel could never release an R-rated movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Fox has a little more leeway.
Apparently Wade Wilson has a wife and apparently she looks like Inara from Firefly. I don’t know much about Deadpool’s backstory and whether or not he actually had a wife and a life before the Weapon X program.
One of the aliens from Galaxy Quest recruits Wade Wilson to the Weapon X program!!!
I wonder if it’s going to be called the Weapon X program and if there will be any nods to Wolverine. Again, I don’t know much about Deadpool’s origins and if he was hanging out with Wolverine while they were both being enhanced. This movie and the most recent X-Men movies seem to have completely ignored X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which I appreciate it because I don’t want to watch that movie.
This scene from the trailer is a complete recreation of the test footage. That footage and the support from fans got Deadpool green lighted. Having that scene in the movie is a nice nod to the fans who really got Deadpool made.
That’s funny.
The action looks really great. Deadpool is one of the most skilled fighters in the Marvel universe and those skills are on display. The action also looks over-the-top, which I don’t think I’ll mind in a Deadpool movie.
Yeah. I don’t think Marvel would ever make this movie. How could someone be so irreverent to Uncle Ben?
Hey buddy! What are you doing here, Colossus? He’s got an X on his belt, which might mean he’s doing something with the X-Men. I’m interested to see how Deadpool plays with the rest of the X-Men universe.
Ryan Reynolds is still better looking than me.
Lots of blood, really making use of the R rating.
I love that the movie gets Deadpool’s eyes right. Even though they’re just white, they are so expressive in the comic books. I know they’re totally CGI, but I don’t care; Deadpool needs big, white expressive eyes.
Deadpool looks like an incredibly different comic book movie and I’m OK with that. Disney and Marvel may not be able to take big chances, but I’m happy to see that Fox isn’t shackled by the same restrictions.
What did you think of the Deadpool trailer?
