Yesterday news broke that Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios are now reporting directly to Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn. Feige and Marvel Studios had been reporting to Marvel Entertainment CEO Isaac Perlmutter, but Feige pushed for the corporate restructuring. Apparently Perlmutter was a bit of a micromanager and Feige wanted the freedom to report directly to the head Mouse.
This restructuring makes sense for Feige and Marvel Studios. Marvel’s movies are by far the most profitable part of Marvel Entertainment. It seems like Feige wanted the ability to go straight to the top instead of having to go through a middleman who was also focused on comic books and other Marvel endeavors.
Up to this point I had never even heard of Isaac Perlmutter, but I have loved everything Feige has done with the MCU. Hopefully this gives Feige more of an opportunity to do what he wants without having to worry about pinching pennies.
I don’t know if Perlmutter was a good boss or not, but I wouldn’t mind working for any of these biblical bosses.
Moses
Moses once called himself the most humble man on the entire planet. Who wouldn’t want to work for someone like that? Thankfully I’ve never had any overbearing bosses; my bosses have all been generous with their time and opportunities. Moses was a great leader who knew how to delegate; following Moses would lead to plenty of chances to serve and make a difference. Also, he did some pretty awesome miracles and I would have loved to see them up close. Except for maybe the water into blood miracle, that one was a little gross.
David
David was a great leader. Even today books on Christian leadership celebrate David and his ability to navigate difficult situations and lead others. I would love to have been one of David’s fighting men. I’ve never been in a fight but, with David as my boss, I imagine I could have won at least one fight before dying a glorious death. David did have some tough standards, though. Saul ordered one of his soldiers to kill him and David had that soldier killed for killing the king. As long as I could stay on his good side, though, David seems like the ideal boss with plenty of perks to following him.
Jesus
Obviously Jesus is the best leader ever. He began a movement that has completely changed the world for the better. I always think that life would be easier had I been one of Jesus’ twelve disciples. Following Jesus as my boss is difficult; there’s so much temptation and laziness to get in the way. I like to think that if I had actually walked with Jesus that it would be much easier to really follow him. The disciples still had their issues, though, including Judas who betrayed Jesus. Sometimes we like to blame our bosses if we’re bad followers, but when it comes to Jesus there’s no one to blame but ourselves. Thankfully Jesus helps us be the best followers that we can be.
Like I said, I’ve had great bosses over the years. I can only hope that Kevin Feige has found a boss who will allow him to continue to shape the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years to come.
What biblical bossed would you like to work for?
Deborah. She seems like the best biblical boss. She'll tell you to go to work pronto, and then come alongside you to fight your battles right along with you (even if she does warn you you wouldn't get the credit you might have otherwise gotten!) We told her story to the kids at our VBS this year -- a strange choice, I know, but the curriculum somehow made it work -- and they LOVED it, without exception (especially the 4th and 5th graders, who got to hear the bit about Jael at the end)
