This holiday season is shaping up to be pretty awesome. Just to be clear, when I say “holiday season” I mean Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. I don’t include Halloween because Halloween sucks. It’s easily my least favorite holiday and I can’t wait for the calendar to turn from October to November. I imagine when I have kids I will enjoy Halloween a lot more, but at this point I’d be happy if Halloween ceased to exist because of some kind of time wimey stuff.
Once October 31 is in the rearview, though, life gets pretty awesome. Here’s some of what I’m most excited about for the Holidays 2015.
Halo 5 – October 27, 2015
I know that technically Halo 5 comes out before Halloween, but I’ll give Master Chief a pass. I’ve had a longer relationship with Halo than most people in my life. Alycia and I have been playing through The Master Chief Collection, but I’m excited for a brand new game, especially with Master Chief accused of being a traitor.
Trunk or Treat – October 31, 2015
OK, I know I thoroughly expressed my hatred for Halloween, but I do enjoy our church’s Trunk or Treat. I don’t have any kids yet, but I do like giving out candy to kids, as long as they’re still in elementary school. Our church had a decorating contest last year for the event and I decorated my trunk like the forest moon of Endor. I had the best trunk but I wasn’t able to win since I worked at the church. That won’t be a problem this year, though, so I’m planning on taking home a prize better than candy.
Star Wars Battlefront – November 17, 2015
The Battlefront series is one of my all-time favorites. I remember logging so many hours on Battlefront and Battlefront II on the original Xbox. I can’t believe the series skipped an entire generation, but it looks like it was worth the wait, especially if I get it for free.
Jessica Jones – November 20, 2015
I’m going to have to put down my controller long enough to watch Marvel’s next Netflix series. Yesterday Marvel announced that Jessica Jones would premiere on November 20. Jessica Jones is the follow up series to Daredevil and focuses on Jessica Jones, a former super her with PTSD. Daredevil was incredible so I am thoroughly excited for Jessica Jones.
Thanksgiving – November 26, 2015
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It is a day set aside solely for eating and spending time with family. And after all the eating, I’ll be able to assault Hoth and watch MCU television series.
The Force Awakens – December 18, 2015
We’re less than 100 days from The Force Awakens. Like I said on The Christian Nerd Podcast, I don’t even think I need another trailer. I’m at a point where I don’t want any more information. I just want to go in the theater and immerse myself in that galaxy far, far away.
Christmas Eve – December 24, 2015
I have spent the past eight Christmas Eves at church all day. We’d start our services in the afternoon and finish off with a candlelight service at 11:00pm. While it was a long day, I enjoyed spending it with my colleagues at church. This Christmas Eve is going to be really different and probably a little sad.
Christmas – December 25, 2015
Lucasfilm is already giving me my favorite Christmas present, but I’ll still enjoy spending time with my family. Christmas is another great holiday for spending time with family with the added incentive of presents.
New Year’s Eve – December 31, 2015
I’ve found the best way to enjoy New Year’s Eve is with lowered expectations. For many years I built it up to be the greatest night ever and it only met those expectations once when a good friend threw a casino night New Year’s Eve Party. Other than that, most of my New Year’s Eves have been rather unfulfilling. Recently I’ve simply wanted to spend time with my friends. I think last year Alycia and I stayed at home alone playing video games; it was pretty sweet.
New Year’s Day – January 01, 2016
New Year’s Day is a great conclusion to the holiday season. Usually we spend it eating cheese and crackers at my in-laws’ house. Since Alycia and I are moving in with them, we’ll only have to go downstairs to get that cheese and those crackers.
It’s still 100 degrees in Southern California, but that’s not keeping me from dreaming of a white (or at least not hot) Christmas. I love the holidays and I can’t wait for everything coming this season.
Other than The Force Awakens, what are you most looking forward to?
