One of the most difficult parts about being a nerd is being excited about something for which other people couldn’t care less.
Sure lots of people were excited for The Force Awakens, but not nearly as many people were excited for the variant covers of Shattered Empire.
I recently told my wife that I had seen The Fifth Element in the theater five times, a feat that she didn’t understand.
I can’t even express how amazing Tweetbot is, syncing my Twitter timeline among all my devices.
These are things that really excite me but, to most people, wouldn’t move the needle much. So when I tell you that I got my own jingle on a local sports talk radio show, I’m positive that you won’t care that much. For me, though, short of getting married and having a child, getting my own jingle may have been the greatest day of my life.
The Petros and Money Show is a sports talk program in Los Angeles. It’s been on the air for nine years and I have pretty much been listening since the beginning. I listen to every minute of every show, either live or on podcast. That’s over 13 hours of content every week.
PMS is technically a sports show, but it’s so much more than that. Petros and Money talk about sports, but they also focus on pop culture, current events, tech news and everything else. One of my favorite weekly segments is The Bachelor Report where Petros pulls clips from and recaps The Bachelor. I can’t stand The Bachelor, but I look forward to The Bachelor Report every week.
Different people on the show have their own jingles, written by Steve Bush. There are even some listeners who have gotten their own jingles. After years of listening, going to remotes, tweeting at the guys and texting Petros (he gives his actual phone number out on the radio once a year), I actually got my own jingle.
If you go to the 45-minute mark, you can hear my jingle.
It’s simple. It’s catchy. It’s awesome. And if you don’t get it, I totally understand.
We’re nerds, which means we obsess over stuff. Not everyone is going to understand our obsessions and that’s OK. I can be excited about a jingle on an AM radio station, and you can be super excited for a new Dragonball cartoon.
What nerdclination excites you but other people don’t understand?
