Early this week Microsoft announced that cross-platform play might finally become a reality. Some game called Rocket League will have cross-network play between PCs and Xbox Live players. But the letter left the possibility open for Xbox players and PS4 players to finally play together.
We’re thrilled to confirm that Psyonix’s Rocket League will be one of the first games to take advantage of this new capability by enabling cross-network play between Xbox One and PC players, with an open invitation for other networks to participate as well.
Those other networks could include the PlayStation Network, which would be awesome. I love playing Battlefront (when I get to play it), but haven’t been able to play with my podcast cohost Ron, because he has a PS4. I don’t think that feature will be added to Battlefront, but it’s possible that developers could add it to future games.
Here are some other cross-platform endeavors I wouldn’t mind seeing.
Avengers vs. X-Men
I’m not super excited for Batman v Superman. I may try to see it next weekend, but if I don’t get to the theater I won’t be crushed. However, if Fox and Disney ever figured out how to make Avengers vs. X-Men, then I would be first in line. Avengers vs. X-Men was a great crossover in the comic books. The Phoenix Force gave almost unlimited power to five X-Men and the Avengers stepped in to control that power. I thoroughly enjoyed the comic series and would love to see it play out on the big screen. Perhaps when comic book movies stop making boatloads of money, Fox and Disney will inject some life into the genre by going cross-platform.
Star Trek
I have no idea when or in what universe the new Star Trek show will be set. It could be set in J.J.’s universe, which would probably put it in the 23rd century. I hope that it’s set in the original universe in the 24th century, 15 years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis. I would love to see Admiral Picard show up on the new show to offer some guidance and direction to the new crew. The show could even spend its budget on making Brent Spiner digitally younger so that he could play Data again. Really, when it comes to the new Star Trek show, the only platform I care about is iTunes. I want the show to be available for purchase on iTunes because I do not want to pay for CBS All Access.
Petros and Money and The Starters
I’ve made no secret about my love for sports. I’m a huge nerd, but I’m also a huge fan of sports. Three or four nights a week I sit at home watching the Warriors play the most beautiful basketball I’ve ever seen. I also spend my days listening to different podcasts about sports. My two favorite podcasts are Petros and Money and The Starters. Petros and Money host a local sports talk show in Los Angeles and The Starters host a daily show on NBA TV. I love both shows and would love to hear one of The Starters as a weekly guest on Petros and Money. Then maybe I could get a jingle on The Starters as well.
I don’t play a lot of video games but, when I do, I’d love to play with my friends who have PlayStations. Until that happens, though, I’ll just have to be satisfied with Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War and Iron Fist showing up in Luke Cage.
What cross-platform parties would you like to see?
