I keep seeing trailers for movies that I probably won’t get to see until they’re on Blu-ray. We’re really close to the birth of our daughter, which means we’re really close to losing a lot of our free time. Most of my friends who have kids tell me that it’s difficult to make it to the theater with a baby. And while I love watching movies in the theater, I am even more excited to have a daughter. Weird how things change.
If our lives weren’t about to be forever changed, here are new trailers for some upcoming movies that might have gotten me to the theater.
Suicide Squad
Amidst rumors of reshoots to make the movie more fun, Warner Bros. and DC released a brand new trailer for Suicide Squad. I’ve previously written that I’m on board with the idea of a team of villains forced to do some good. I really like the Thunderbolts, which is Marvel’s version of the Suicide Squad. I only recognize two of the characters: Killer Croc and Harley Quinn, and only because they were in Batman: The Animated Series. Reshoots or not, this movie looks like it will be fun and Harley Quinn seems like she might steal the show.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
I didn’t see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Obviously I saw all the original movies, but I didn’t catch the 2014 release. This trailer, though, actually kind of makes me want to check out Out of the Shadows. I don’t know if it’s the inclusion of Beebop and Rocksteady or the turtles’ desire to be human, but something got to me. I usually don’t give into nostalgic feelings; it turns out stuff I liked when I was 10 wasn’t that great. But this trailer makes me want to watch the original on Hulu and find a babysitter so I can see Out of the Shadows.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
We won’t return to the Wizarding World until November. At that point our daughter will be seven months old and it might be easier to get out of the house. Also, I know that Alycia will want to see Fantastic Beasts so we could make it a precious date night. I like this trailer a lot, but it was really weird to see all of that magical stuff taking place in the United States. I’m just so used to everything being British that I was a little thrown off by Old Glory. I came to love Harry Potter later in life, but that doesn’t make me any less excited for Fantastic Beasts. With J.K Rowling and David Yates behind this movie, I’m ready to step back into the world of wizards and witches.
I love movies but not as much as my daughter. Hopefully when she gets older we can love movies together. I’m still trying to figure out the right time to show her Star Wars, but I’m all right starting with Beauty and the Beast and Mulan.
Which of these movies are you excited to see?
