With my recent job change, Alycia and I needed to find another babysitter for Clara. My sister-in-law has been and will continue to watch Clara three days a week, but we needed someone else for another day during the week. Alycia and I asked a young woman from our church if she would be willing to watch Clara for us. She agreed and yesterday was her first day watching Clara.
The day went well and when I got home Clara still had ten fingers and toes. It was a weird experience, though, to leave Clara with someone who isn’t a family member. I completely trust our babysitter, but it was still a little weird.
In honor of our new, amazing babysitter, here are some nerdy babysitters.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan wasn’t a real hands-on babysitter, but he did keep track of Luke from afar. I wasn’t really worried about Clara’s safety; she was at home where everything is baby-proofed. However, if Clara was being babysat by a Jedi Master I would worry even less about her safety. Obi-Wan fought armies of battle droids, faced numerous Sith and dueled Darth Vader; I’m pretty sure he could protect Clara from any of the dangers of suburbia.
Willow
Elora Danan’s story is a lot like Moses’s. Elora was a prophesied child who would set her people and the entire kingdom free. Elora is placed in a basket and floats downriver until she ends up in the arms of Willow, her babysitter. I only saw Willow once; I remember liking it, but don’t remember much about the movie. Warwick Davis is a great aspiring sorcerer and babysitter, but I prefer him as my favorite Ewok: Wicket. I remember Val Kilmer was great as the mercenary swordsman Madmartigan, though I needed Wikipedia to remind me that his name wasn’t “Mad Martigan.” I don’t know if I’d trust Clara to an aspiring sorcerer and a warrior, unless she was looking to play some D&D.
Rocket
This isn’t really a nerdy babysitter that we’ve seen do much babysitting yet. A month from today Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit theaters and a month from today you’ll be reading my review. Groot was my favorite character from the original GOTG; he really was the heart of the movie. I’m very excited to see what Baby Groot has in store for us and how Rocket does as a babysitter. Rocket doesn’t seem like the most caring, patient or compassionate individual, but he’s always had a soft spot for Groot. Here’s hoping Rocket is good at his job babysitting, but not too good; I want to see Baby Groot manage a little mischief.
I’m so thankful that we have plenty of great options for people to watch Clara. I love Clara more than I thought possible and I wouldn’t leave her with just anybody. Thankfully we have more than just a bunch of anybodys to watch our little girl. She’s so cute, though, it’s really like we’re doing them a favor.
