For six and a half years I never really thought about taking a break from The Christian Nerd. Back in January of 2011 I had no idea that I would write over 1,600 posts and record over 100 episodes of a podcast. To that point, my blogging endeavors had been less than consistent without any sort of regular rhythm. Now, six and a half years later, I can proudly say that I missed my schedule three or four times, usually when I was traveling.
Earlier this month, though, I seriously began thinking about what it would look like to take an extended break from The Christian Nerd. I still enjoy my website and producing content, but I don’t enjoy it as much as I used to. The constant pressure to write and publish five days a week has kept me from pursuing other projects and endeavors.
On August 1 The Christian Nerd will be going on hiatus. I’m going to take some time to work on other projects and figure out what’s next for The Christian Nerd. I definitely don’t want to completely bury The Christian Nerd; I’ve invested too much and still want to examine the intersection between the Christian faith and nerd culture. At some point The Christian Nerd will return, but it will probably look a little different.
I’m so thankful for all of you that have supported The Christian Nerd over the years. All of your comments, retweets and likes have meant the world to me. I’m especially grateful for those of you who told a friend about my little corner of the Internet. This definitely isn’t the end, but it is the close of a chapter. Hopefully the next chapter will continue to help us see how God is already speaking to us through our favorite nerdclinations.
