    #1117 – Star Wars: Battlefront

E3 week always makes me a little nostalgic. There was a time in my life when I wandered around the Los Angeles Convention Center, eyes wide open and trying to get my hands on all of the upcoming releases. I went to E3 four years in a row and would love to get back some day. There has been a lot of news coming out of E3, but nothing has me as excited as Star Wars: Battlefront.

Battlefront is one of my favorite video game series. I remember pouring hours into the first two games, taking the fight to either the Empire or the Rebels, depending on how I was feeling that day. Battlefront 3 was almost finished but never released. I don’t know if that game would have been any good, but the upcoming version looks incredible.

Check out the new gameplay trailer below.

  • George Lucas created a compelling universe. So compelling that I don’t mind revisiting the same scenes and same battles over and over again. I don’t know how many times I’ve played through the battle of Hoth in various games, but I enjoy it every time.
  • Watching the trailer made me think of the scene in Gladiator when Maximus’s Carthaginians defeat the Romans. History has the Empire eviscerating the Rebels on Hoth, but maybe history has a chance to be rewritten.
  • It looks like the Imperials have a much better time on Hoth. The Rebel characters in the video had rocket packs and snowspeeders, but the Empire had AT-ATs. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to play as the Rebellion on the Hoth map; piloting a Walker seems like the most fun anyone could have in a video game.
  • I know it’s a video game, but the continuity is a little screwed up. Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker shows up on Hoth, not barely trained Padawan Luke Skywalker. The Jedi battles look impressive but I wonder how they’ll work and who will get to be a Jedi.
  • As Darth Vader would say, Star Wars: Battlefront looks impressive. I’m happy I’ve already got an Xbox One so I’m ready for the game. Now if I could only find some time to play it. Hopefully by November I’ll clear out some room in my schedule to join the battle in that galaxy far, far away.

What did you think of the Star Wars: Battlefront trailer?
