This week is Tolkien Week. I didn’t even know that Tolkien Week existed until Monday. The celebration of Tolkien Week began in 1978 and commemorates the work of J.R.R. Tolkien and his son, Christopher J.R. Tolkien. I only know Tolkien from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I also know that he was friends with C.S. Lewis and helped lead Lewis to Christ.
How awesome would it have been to sit and listen to Lewis and Tolkien discuss theology?
I don’t know that much about Tolkien, but what I do know thoroughly impresses me. Not only was he an amazing author, but he was also an even more amazing philologist. He created the Elvish language to help make Middle-earth more realistic.
Tolkien created a language yet I can’t even really tell you what a preposition is.
Philologist and author can’t be found in Romans 12 but Tolkien definitely used those talents to glorify God. When we use our talents to the best of our ability, God is glorified. God gave us our talents and when we use them with excellence he gets glory.
Rocks glorify God by lying there.
Whales glorify God by leaping out of the ocean.
Tolkien glorified God by creating worlds and languages.
How can you glorify God by excelling in the abilities he has given you?
Nice post, beautifully worded.
Cheers!
Thanks!
So is there a c.s. Lewis week?
