God makes some amazing promises. One such promise can be found in Jeremiah 29:13.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
God promises that if we seek him with all of our hearts then we will find him.
Everyone remembers playing hide-and-seek. One kid would be designated as “It” and then everyone else would have to go and hide. Those hiding did their best to find the best hiding spot because, if they could go unfound, they wouldn’t have to bear the shame of being “It.”
Fortunately for us, God isn’t playing hide-and-seek. He’s not climbing underneath the bathroom sink or trying to squeeze himself into the dryer. God wants us to find him; it’s his greatest desire that we would find him.
God wants us to find him so much that he promises that we’ll find him. If we truly seek him out with all of our hearts, then he’ll be standing there in plain view, ready to enfold us in his arms.
The problem most of us have, though, is that we don’t always seek God out with all of our hearts. If we’re honest, very often our pursuit of God is rather half-hearted, like someone who didn’t want to play hide-and-seek in the first place.
We get distracted by our work.
We get distracted by our friends.
We get distracted by our problems.
We get distracted by our shows.
We get distracted by our need to sleep in.
We get distracted by Final Fantasy VI, which we play on our Nintendo DS (that one seems a little specific).
God promises that we’ll find him if we seek him with our whole hearts. And when we don’t find him it’s because we think he’s not living up to his end of the deal. When, in reality, our divided hearts are leading us away from God and towards any number of other distractions.
What helps you whole heartedly seek after God?
