I had a great time at summer camp last week but I felt a little disconnected. Hume Lake doesn’t have any cell service and pretty spotty wifi. While I enjoyed the opportunity to go off the grid for a bit, I did miss out on a lot of the news coming out of Comic-Con. I’m back home, though, and have had some time to catch up.
Some of the biggest news came in the form of new trailers for some upcoming blockbusters. Some of the trailers were supposed to the Comic-Con exclusives but, shocking to no one, they ended up on the Internet.
Here are some of my favorite trailers from Comic-Con.
The Force Awakens
This trailer actually made me tear up a little. I was already very excited for The Force Awakens and now I’m even more excited. The behind-the-scenes footage really shows the care and passion that went into making this film. Practical effects, actual sets and full sets of armor are only a few of the aspects that already make The Force Awakens feel more like the original trilogy than the prequels.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
As excited as I was for The Force Awakens, I had zero excitement for Batman v Superman. The first teaser trailer was terribly boring and did nothing to get me excited for DC’s biggest movie to date. However, this trailer definitely piqued my interest. On this week’s episode of The Christian Nerd Podcast, Ron and I discussed the trailer. He was upset that DC seems to be rehashing a lot of Batman’s story, but I was intrigued by the new additions such as Wonder Woman and military soldiers donning Superman insignias.
Suicide Squad
I don’t really know what to think about Suicide Squad. I don’t know much about the team or its members. In fact, the only two I recognize are Harley Quinn and Killer Croc and I only recognize them because they were in Batman: The Animated Series. I like the idea of a team of villains working for the government and trying to be heroes. The idea is very similar to Marvel’s Thunderbolts, a team with which I am far more familiar. I’m very intrigued by Suicide Squad and interested to see how it comes together. At this point, though, I won’t be counting down the days until its release.
Someday I’m going to make it to Comic-Con and tweet about how much I hate waiting in line to get into Hall H. Until that time, though, I’ll just have to watch all the leaked videos, knowing full well that the studios will release the full quality versions.
What got you most excited from Comic-Con?
Felt the same way about Batman vs. Superman. I like Ben Affleck and I like certain elements of the trailer but something just seems off and forced about it. Seems like they’re trying to make Lex Luthor into The Joker as well. I actually really liked the Suicide Squad trailer after being pretty skeptical about it. The Deadpool footage, after getting so much hype, left me feeling pretty “meh”. I kinda can’t stand Ryan Reynolds and I think I’ll take a pass on that one. I think out of everything I’m most excited to see the new Muppets tv show after the response it got!
