And now TLJ.
Yesterday Lucasfilm and Disney announced that Episode VIII is officially titled The Last Jedi. When I read the title I immediately pictured Luke at the end of The Force Awakens. Luke didn’t say a word, but the pained look on his face said everything. Hopefully The Last Jedi will show us why Luke has so much pain in his eyes and why he appears to be such a reluctant hero.
The official Star Wars Twitter account tweeted that The Last Jedi is the next chapter in the Skywalker saga. This is probably an innocuous sentence created by a marketing executive, unless it’s not. It could be a hint about Rey’s parentage or a wink to some other potential Skywalker offspring.
I’m just getting over all the excitement of Rogue One and now I get to look forward to The Last Jedi. I loved Rogue One but after the credits rolled, I couldn’t help but think about Episode VIII. Jyn’s exploits just made me want to get back to Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren.
The first trailer for The Force Awakens premiered in April at Star Wars Celebration. This year Star Wars Celebration is April 13-16. So we could be less than three months from seeing what Rian Johnson is bringing to that galaxy far, far away.
Two new Star Wars movies in a year didn’t do anything to diminish my love for George Lucas’s space opera. If anything, I’m just as excited for Star Wars as I’ve ever been. Thankfully that excitement won’t go unrequited for the foreseeable future.
What do you think about the title The Last Jedi?
