    #904 – Marvel is a Juggernaut

Yesterday I wrote about Sony’s inability to make the most of its Spider-Man franchise. Sony seems a little lost, like a ship without a rudder. Sony has an impressive ship but no way to steer it and no destination.

Marvel on the other hand is a juggernaut. Up to this point everything that it has done has worked. Marvel kicked off its Cinematic Universe with Iron Man in 2008 and hasn’t looked back since. Almost every movie is more successful than its predecessor, including Guardians of the Galaxy, which was Marvel’s biggest gamble to date.

Marvel again cemented its status as a juggernaut yesterday. Marvel originally set May 6, 2016 as a release date for one of its movie. When Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice was pushed back, it got pushed to May 6, 2016. Marvel then announced that Captain America 3 was the film slated for May 6, 2016. Marvel and Warner Bros. both said that they were holding to that date, regardless of any other heroes. That changed yesterday.

Warner Bros. blinked first in the staring contest and announced that Batman vs Superman’s release has been pushed to March 25, 2016. Marvel is a juggernaut (not the Juggernaut, he’s owned by Fox) and Warner Bros. wanted to get out of its way. Unlike Sony, Marvel has a plan and that plan has given the studio momentum. At this point it doesn’t look like Marvel will slow down any time soon, especially not before May 6, 2016.

We can learn a lot from Marvel. Not only has Marvel given us 10 great movies, but it has also shown us the power of a plan. Plans require intention and effort. If we want to be successful in our lives just like Marvel has been successful in its Cinematic Universe, then we need a plan as well.

The most fruitful periods in my life with God have come when I had a plan. When I’m intentional about spending time with God, applying his word to my life and seeking his glory in all I do, I see the fruit for my effort. But that kind of lifestyle takes a plan; it doesn’t just happen.

I can’t roll out of bed every morning and just expect that God is going to work in my life. I can’t expect to see any fruit of the Spirit in my life by sitting around and twiddling my thumbs. As Paul writes, we need to work out our salvation. We need to trust that the same grace that saves us will also empower us to partner with the Holy Spirit in our sanctification. And that kind of partnership, the kind of partnership that transforms our lives and makes us more like Christ, takes effort, intention and a plan.

Marvel has a plan and it has provided us with hours of entertainment. If we have a plan then we can be transformed more into the people that God created us to be. And as awesome as Guardians of the Galaxy is, being transformed and making a difference for God’s kingdom is even more awesome.

What’s part of your plan for spiritual transformation?

Batman vs. Superman, Captain America 3, Marvel, Movies

Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My weblog looks weird when viewing
from my apple iphone. I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to correct this problem.

If you have any suggestions, please share. With thanks!
