If that was the end of Agent Carter, then it left me mostly satisfied. The showdown between Peggy and Whitney Frost left something to be desired. However, the resolution of the emotional loose ends left me smiling.
Agent Carter once again appears to be on the bubble of getting renewed or canceled. Hayley Atwell allayed some fears, though, by saying that she could appear in both Agent Carter and Conviction, the pilot in which she has been cast. I really do hope to see more of Peggy’s adventures; she is a tremendous hero and I am thoroughly entertained by her exploits.
Here are some thoughts I had while watching “Hollywood Ending.”
Teamwork
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is much more focused on teamwork than Agent Carter. A few times this season Peggy banded together with her team, but for the most part it’s Peggy against the world. “Hollywood Ending” bucked that trend, though, and showed all of the SSR’s Los Angeles office working together. Peggy, Jarvis, Souza, Samberly, Howard Stark and even Thompson came together in order to stop Whitney Frost. Each person had a role and everyone needed to play his or her part in order to accomplish the goal. Every time we see teamwork on screen, it’s a great reminder about how the body of Christ works. None of us can further God’s kingdom on our own, so we might as well just find a team and get working.
What If
“Dwelling on what might have been is no way to live.” – Peggy Carter
If Captain America was the love of my life and I had lost him, then I probably would have had a hard time moving on too. From her experience, though, Peggy offers Dr. Wilkes that marvelous piece of advice. Instead of dwelling on what might have been or living in a world of “what ifs,” Peggy knew that it was more important to appreciate what we’ve had and continue moving forward. She was able to acknowledge how much she enjoyed meeting Wilkes, but didn’t let what might have bee keep her from moving forward, which apparently was straight to Souza.
The Girl
As a nerd I have often felt the sting of unrequited love. My first crush was in the second grade. Her name was Michelle and she had strawberry blonde hair. I never told her how I felt, but I did smash a fly on her desk. There have been plenty of crushes since then and plenty of unreciprocated feelings. All of those feelings of rejection found their release, though, when Peggy finally kissed Souza. Daniel got the girl. I’m happy for Peggy and Daniel; if there isn’t another episode of Agent Carter I’ll think of them living happily ever after, even though Peggy said that Captain America rescued her husband from behind enemy lines.
I really don’t want that to be the end of Agent Carter, partially because it gives me a few posts’ worth of content, but mostly because I really enjoy the show. I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I always made a point to watch Agent Carter. Hopefully ABC brings Peggy back for another season; television needs more strong and admirable female heroes.
